Payne Family Update

Here's the latest on each of us (photos courtesy of Samuel and Joel):
Let's see. Ed has started teaching Sunday School at our church. He is teaching on the overall message of the Pentateuch. He made a "scroll" for each person to fill in as he teaches. It's been really interesting so far and has generated a lot of great conversation. Ed's also been working overtime at work here and there, saving up extra money to re-do the upstairs.
Leah continues to heal and is gearing up for her final surgery on December 29th. I joined Bible Study Fellowship this year and I really enjoy it. We're studying the book of John. I'm also getting ready to start watching our friend's little boy, Baby G. He'll be here next week.
Oh, Poor Joel. He started wheezing yesterday so Ed took him to the doctor's. He has RSV. He came home with two different inhalers (Albuterol and Flovent) that he has to use throughout the day. He H-A-T-E-S them!! But it is so pitiful to watch him struggle with the RSV. He'll start coughing and he can't catch his breath. His face turns all sorts of colors. And he almost threw up last night. It is really sad. Hopefully this medicine will start kicking in soon.
And then there's Samuel. We were having a really rough time with him for a few weeks. The doctor seems to think that he is still really upset and insecure about me being away at the hospital. He was melting down 10-20x per day at the drop of a hat. And naptimes/bedtimes were a real nightmare. But we seemed to have turned a corner. The doc suggested I spend all sorts of time with him, include him in everything I do, and maybe that would help. We added in a healthy dose of prayer and confession of complete exhaustion on my part and we now see a difference. Please pray for him as I get ready to be back in the hospital for another week. And stay tuned for a video featuring his latest funny phrase.

Leah,
You amaze me. You truly are super-mom! Hope Joel gets better soon and that Samuel adjusts okay in the coming weeks. Laney went through a little bit of that when both Hugh and I were unexpectedly away for a week when Mattie was born and in NICU. Love you!

Poor Joel! I hate to hear that and hope he gets better soon! Karis went through a smaller version of what Samuel is going through when I was having Karlie, and I was only gone for 3 days, so I can't imagine how hard it must be for him when you are gone for a week at a time! It just took time for her to forget about it, I think, but it was definitely hard. I've heard a lot of good things about BSF and you have inspired me to look it up in my area and see if I can do it when it starts again. We'll be praying for you guys!
