Bye Bye Pacifiers
So long, farewell, aufwerdersein (ha, ha - I have no idea how to spell that word!! and I'm too lazy to google it), goodbye...
The pacifiers are G-O-N-E!! I finally got fed up enough with them and told Ed, "that's it. let's get rid of them." So we laid Samuel down for his nap today without them. Here's the exchange:
Sam: Pacis. Pacis.
Me: Sorry, no more pacis. They're all gone.
Sam: All gone?
Me: Yep. Go nigh-night with Bear and Baa and Kitty (his three stuffed friends featured in the photo above).
Sam: Pacis.
Me: Tell Kitty, sorry, no more pacis.
He got up out of his bed two times and I put him down where he stayed and cried for 30 minutes. Then he got up and went into the bathroom. I thought he was pulling my chain as an excuse to get out of bed, but oops, he had gone number two in his undies! We cleaned him up and he laid back down to finish his nap with no tears.
Flash forward to later this afternoon. We are playing around in the bathroom.
Sam: Pacis. Pacis.
Me: Sorry, remember, pacis are all gone.
Sam: Sorry, Kitty, pacis all done.
No tears.
Bedtime.
Sam: Pacis.
Me: Sorry, pacis are all done. Go nigh-night with Bear and Baa. Oops, we left Kitty at Dustin's house. We'll see him in the morning. (Dumb me!! I forgot the stupid cat at the neighbors' house!)
I close the door and stand outside to see what will happen. I hear...
Sam: Kitty? Where are you Kitty? Kitty?
Break my heart!! I ran down to the neighbors and got the cat back.
Me: Here's Kitty Samuel.
Sam: Sorry, Kitty, pacis all done. Here Kitty, lay right here.
And that's it!! We'll see how tomorrow goes, but I am doing a little victory dance tonight!!
Here's a video I made yesterday that made me realize how much we needed to ditch those stupid pacifiers.

Did you take Ed's paci away too?
Wow - congratulations!! Sounds like it went really well. Way to go :).
Yay! Sounds like it wasn't a big ordeal! It will be so much easier now to not have to keep up with those things!
That is one hilarious video!
Oh my goodness...that video was PRECIOUS!!!!! Ah! What a good idea to teach him your full names and your street name just in case he ever got lost. I believe we'll be teaching this to Laney too. Thanks for the lead! And oh boy, I hope it will be this easy for us to take Laney's paci away. Laney doesn't have a lovey, so I can't say, "sleep with....". I've always wanted her to have a lovey though. Maybe it's not too late.
Wow, Sammy, potty training and giving up your pacis all within a month. You really are a BIG BOY!!
Hello,
You do not know me but I wanted to thank you for your post about getting rid of the pacifier. This has been a point of contention for us too and I am now going to be the parent and just say enough is enough. I also wanted to let you know that I noticed something in your adorable son's picture. His left eye is showing white instead of red. I'm not telling you this to alarm you but the way the photograph catches the light can be the first sign of something serious, but curable if found early. A specialist that deals with pediatric optometry would be able to tell you if there is a problem or not. Take care and God Bless.
Hi anonymous - thanks for checking our blog. I didn't do anything about the red eye in the photo (too lazy the night I uploaded photos). Do you think it is just the red eye from the camera flash? Thanks!
I don't know if it is the red eye from the camera or not but whenever you see white it is something to take seriously. Check out these websites.

I'm not doing this to scare you but so many people have no clue about this and how you can spot it in photographs. It could very well be nothing but as a parent I know I would want to have my child checked out for peace of mind. I looked at some of your old pictures and do not see it so I'm sure it is nothing but better to be safe then sorry.
